Day 20 White River to Kenny Lake

Nice drive on the Alcan today.  I was able to be in two countries at once without a passport.  Speaking of passports you do know they are supposed to be signed.  The agent spanked us and said we should sign them before the next time.  It was cool to stand in two countries at the same time.  I got a picture of the marker and me.  Construction wasn’t to bad but it did bounce around the stuff I tightly packed.  Not so tightly packed, it’s the pesky TV.  Tomorrow is the big day I will do everything in my power to get pictures posted.  We are taking rain gear just in case because we will be gone all day.  Will post more tomorrow, here until the morning of the 12th, then onto Valdez

Day 19 Takhini Hot Springs to White River

Or last night in Canada this go around!  I am amazed at how quickly time is going.  Tomorrow we will be hitting our first stop in Alaska where we will be spending the first three nights in Chitina.  This will be the jumping off point for McMarthy and Kennicott Alaska, here there is an old mining town.  Roy and I will be flying in on Sunday spending the day exploring then flying back.  So look for some cool pictures and blogs when we are in civilization again.

Day 18 Whitehorse round 1

Roy was feeling better today so we rode the trolley down the waterfront of Whitehorse.  We also went to a farmer’s market where I was given two small white turnips I told the guy we were camping and could not go through the whole bunch.  I asked if he wanted anything for them he said no.  That was cool.  We are also trying to collect stamps by visiting historic places in the Yukon, listed in a book.  If you visit 20 of the sites you get entered to win two troy ounces of gold.  If you visit 10 sites you get entered for one troy ounce.  So keep your fingers crossed.  I will share. One more night at the hot springs then we have one more night in Canada.  Saturday night we will be back in Alaska using all the same colored money,  Canada does have pretty money.  We have two long days but I’m ok with that  I am antsy to get to Alaska we have been on the road for over 3500 miles.  We are coming up on some spotty internet so you might get a bunch of post all at once.

This is round one because we will be back on the return trip.

Day 17 Staying Put

Things happen for a reason, yesterday when we were driving up to the campsite we decided to extend the stay.  Good thing Roy developed what we think is food poisoning so the sight seeing got pushed back a day. We did go out and get a couple of pictures of wacky roadside attractions.

I am upset I CAN NOT do hot springs I did try the temp feĺt ok but it raised my body temp.  I enjoyed sitting in the springs but now balance is way off. Oh well we are on vacation. Tomorrow I will post more pictures and play tacky tourist

Day 16 Johnson’s Crossing to Takhini Hot Springs

Also known as change of plans. We or I did not realize that our first stop in Alaska had no electric nor did our third.  So instead of doing two nights here we are doing three.  Our last stop in Canada did not have electric either so we changed that too. This trip has been amazing journey.  We are still going to McCarthy but by plane this should be a blast.  I will let you know how the flight was that will be July 10. I can’t believe how fast time is going.

We are going to try the hot springs maybe, I know Roy will.  We will also get shopping done and I will post pictures of some of the wacky things in White Horse which is about 15 miles from here. Tonight we ate at a game restaurant Roy had elk, I had halibut.  Catch up tomorrow.

Day 15 Watson Lake to Johnson’s Crossing

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!!!

We tied a red white and blue bow to the back of the trailer.  We were going to put out some solar lights but realized they won’t go on until midnight and no one would see them.

Wow, the start of week 3 going by way to quickly.  I am amazed at the stops we are camping at.  Last night was basically a gravel city block tonight we are in the woods again.  The food in Canada is a little pricey but it is worth it because most of what we have had has been home cooked.

Last night we went to the northern lights exhibit it was cool.  Today we are back to normal with animal count one bear.  Crossed the Continetal Divide today not by a river so you could not see the water change direction.  That has been cool when you are driving by ariver and it is flowing in one direction and you cross the divide and see a river flow the opposite direction.  The water in a lot of the rivers rush over quite a few rapids.  I have not stuck my fingers in any streams afraid of how cold it will be.  Tomorrow I will brave the water at the hotsprings, if I can handle the heat.

Just on a side note I am still trying to get my meds right so I don’t sleep through Alaska.  Today was not a good day slept most of the morning while Roy drove.  Roy seems to be handling the elevation but we have not been that high for an extended period of time.  All that aside we are both enjoying the trip.

Day 14 OMG they do exist

Today was a day of milestones.  Crossed 3000 miles on the trip, ended week two, saw lots of animals, crossed the Continetal Divide again and got to the campsite early.  The fact that it is 11pm and the sun is just thinking of setting is mind blowing.

We did not see buffalo where everyone said they would be, my thought was great another day with no animals.  Before we packed up I got to see the moose from across the lake,  last night we saw one swim across the lake.  On the road we did see a baby caribou, woodland bison, some mountain goats, three bears, and mountain sheep.  They aren’t big horn but I still had to drive 3000 miles to see a family.  Lots of babies and they all seem to be shedding.

We hung two signs in the sign post forest, one with our names and one with our caching names.  Tomorrow it’s on to Johnson’s Crossing.

Day 13 Amazing Moose Toad River

Stayed put today, worked on pictures, took a shower, ate dinner and saw a double rainbow.  Tomorrow we are onto the signpost forest in Watson Lake YT. I will post pictures of our signs.  I wanted to share this rainbow from after tonight.

This was a double rainbow right outside the trailer.  I also got to watch a cow moose swim the whole lake.  Captured some amazing pictures and some good video.  I am so glad to share this with you.  Enjoy
